Veg Pizza

Pizza’s can be made at home easily. The best part about this is that you can add any topping you want and tweak its quantity as you wish. 🙂

Been a while since Keshav and I ate Pizza’s outside. Initially I used to buy pizza sauces from the store. But then one bottle is sufficient for 3-4 pizza’s, after making one Pizza the rest would end up in the fridge. These ready-made sauces have a small shelf life. In a few days before I could use it again there would be development of Fungi.. 😦 So one time I thought let me try to make some sauce at home. Just read the ingredients on the contents of a ready-made sauce and added some of them and made the sauce. It turned out pretty well. 🙂

Ingredients: (Serves 2-3)    Preparation time: 20-25 mins
Pizza base – 2, 10 inch

For the Pizza sauce:
Passata/ Tomato puree – 150 gms
Garlic cloves – 2 medium-sized, chopped finely
Olive oil/ any cooking oil – 1 tbsp
Mixed Italian herbs – 1 tsp
Black peppercorns – 2-3 crushed
Chilli flakes – 1 tsp
Salt to taste

For the toppings:
Red onion – 1 medium-sized, diced
Capsicum – 1 medium-sized chopped in the manner you wish
Olives – 7-8 chopped in rings
Jalapeños – 10 – 15, chopped finely or you can add slices, I chopped them finely as shown
Mozzarella – 1 packet of 200 gms, grated

Method:
Pre-heat the oven set to 200 degrees.

Meanwhile when the oven is getting pre-heated, heat oil in a fry pan set to medium heat. Sauté the chopped garlic for a few seconds, add the Italian herbs, fry for 20-30 seconds, add the passata and cook. Once the tomato puree/passata starts to boil set the heat to low from medium and add the chilli flakes, crushed black peppercorns & salt to taste. Mix well. You can add a pinch of sugar if you want the sauce to be both hot and sweet.

The pizza sauce should be ready in 10 mins.

Take the sauce off heat and cool. Apply the sauce to the base of the pizza evenly. Add one layer of cheese as shown. Spread the veggies over the cheese evenly. Sprinkle some salt for the veggies. Add some of the Jalapeños and olives too. Add another layer of cheese and bake for about 10-12 mins.

Repeat the same with to make the second pizza.

Garnishing:
The pizza sauce itself is a little spicy and the Jalapeños add spice as well. If required you can add some chilli flakes/ crushed black peppercorns as per your taste.

Serving Suggestions:
Cut into slices of the desired sizes and serve hot.
